I'm not going to check out your HiJackThis listing. There are other websites just for that purpose : )
However, it certainly sounds like you have been infected with some kind of malware. Unfortunately, if you find one infection, it is highly likely you have another one.
Since NONE of the anti-spyware/anti-adware programs are 100% accurate in finding and removing spyware, you need at least two programs which you will run one after the other, not at the same time.
There are two excellent free ones:
Spybot, Search and Destroy
and
Ad-Aware
Both are available FREE from www.download.com
You will need to download, install, update and run them, one at a time. Be careful with the NAME of these programs - there are "look-alikes" with very similar names, that are in fact spyware themselves!
After this current infection is cleared up, be sure to run both of the above programs at least once a week if you are on the internet frequently and/or like to download music or files.
Before you run these, clean up (delete) your cookies, temp files and temporary internet files. I prefer to use Ccleaner (available at www.filehippo.com) to do this, rather than the built-in DISK CLEANUP. If you want to use Disk Cleanup, you can find it if you:
- Double-Click on My Computer to open it up
- RIGHT-click on your C: drive
- Choose PROPERTIES and then click on the DISK CLEANUP button
- When done, reboot your computer.
Delete these files daily or run Ccleaner every day right before you shut your computer down.
You should also have a good anti-virus program and a firewall to help protect your computer. AVG FREE is an excellent anti-virus program, which can be downloaded from www.download.com. Zone Alarm makes a totally free version (watch you don't download the 30-day free trial of the paid version). You can download this from the manufacturer at www.zonelabs.com
HTH : )
Good luck!

Firefox has a tendency to run/hang up in the background, but I have never seen Internet Explorer do that. 37 processes is not that high. I have 28 running right now with just Firfox open. Do the 7 windows come up after rebooting without opening your browser? If so you must have some kind of virus or something.

Even without reading your HiJack This Log, I can tell you that you either are not using antivirus, antispyware, and antirootkit programs, or else your definitions are about a month or more out of date. Download and use AVG Free anti-Rootkit, SUPER Anti-Spyware (also free) and if you don't have a firewall and antivirus, consider buying the Zone Alarm Security Suite and downloading the free beta of Zone Labs Force Field browser shield. These programs, plus SpyBot Search and Destroy, should be able to handle the infection you listed, according to their websites.

Do you have a good antivirus application? AVG is a very good free one. Also go to trendmicro.com and do an online scan. Then run adaware and then spybot:search and destroy. Also, defrag your hard drive. What you are seeing may be as simple as a badly fragmented drive. Click on Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter.

You have unknown items in you socks, plus having Norton that uses tons of CPU/resources and not able to protect you is a time wasting exercise.
Download a copy of Avast, install and scan when restart
Remove Norton once above is done
Remove Google toolbar
Download and install SpybotSD from safer-networking
