Multiply everything out on both sides:

2(x-1) + 3 = x - 3(x+1)

2x - 2 + 3 = x - 3x - 3

Combine like terms:

2x + 1 = -2x - 3

Add 2x to each side:

2x + 1 + 2x = -2x - 3 + 2x

4x + 1 = -3

Subtract one from each side

4x + 1 - 1 = -3 - 1

4x = -4

Divide by four:

4x / 4 = -4 / 4

x = -1

There you go!

Hold on I'll explain

The first thing you are gonna need to do is go ahead and multiply through the ()

2x - 2 + 3 = x - 3x - 3
Now combine the terms

2x + 1 = -2x - 3

Now you have to move your like terms to where your x's are on one side and your numbers are on teh other side

To do this add 2x to both sides and subtract 1 from both sides
2x + 2x +1 -1 = -2x + 2x -3 -1
4x = -4
x = -1

To make sure that you have the correct x plug -1 in for x

2(-1-1) + 3 = -1 - 3(-1+1)
2(-2) + 3 = -1 - 3(0)
-4 + 3 = -1 -0
-1 = -1

Hope this helps

Hey there!

Here's the answer.

2(x-1)+3=x-3(x+1) --> Write the problem.
2x-2+3=x-3x-3 --> Distribute 2 into x-1 and distribute -3 into x+1.
2x+1=-2x-3 --> Simplify like terms.
4x+1=-3 --> Add 2x to both sides of the equation.
4x=-4 --> Subtract 1 on both sides of the equation.
x=-1 Divide 4 on both sides of the equation.

So the answer is x=-1.

Hope it helps!

multiply out the factors, group all the x's together, put the x's on one side of the equation, and divide such that the coefficient of x is 1.
