The 33% number was reported by microsoft themselves in an interview... They still are not sure what the cause is but with a 3 year warranty, that will carry you until the release the next system....

All 360s are under warranty for 3 years for the red ring of death, so yeah, they are still repairing them. New 360s that run cooler are starting to be found...the first were found in the new Halo edition 360s. Soon, they will be in all 360s. Some will tell you they appear at 33%...that is NOT true. I'm not sure where people get those numbers. In reality, it's a pretty small % that have a problem, it's just that so many have been sold. Mine got in once and I bought it about 2 years ago.

I got a 360 for Christmas and got the red-lights problem after about 4 months of use. Microsoft sent a shipping box, returned the unit fixed and gave me a 30 day card for XBoxLive for my trouble.
If they know how to fix the units, then they know how to make new units not have the problems.
