This passage comes from Romans.
Romans 12:19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.
20 "BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD."
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
We are not to seek our own vengeance. We should leave that up to God. He will take care of that in His own time and way. There is also the warning that seeking our own vengeance could lead to us being overcome by evil. We need to avoid that.

In translating "I will take revenge" [KJV: "vengeance is mine"] it is important to indicate that God takes revenge for what others have done, but not necessarily to himself. In other words, God is not being vengeful in the sense that he retaliates for what people do to him. Rather, he exercises judgment upon those who harm others. Therefore, one may translate "I will take revenge on the evil that has been done" or "I will take revenge on those who have done evil." In some languages the closest equivalent may be "to pay back" -- for example, "I will pay them back for how they have caused others to suffer." In other languages one may translate as "I will cause them to suffer in return."

God has a plan of action and you do not have to make plans which would leave you the guilty one in the end.

It's a warning against vengeance. If you get revenge, it will turn on you.
