Fall is a good time to plant garlic. But garlic isn't a cover crop or a nitrogen producer....it's not going to replenish your soil.

To replenish your soil you can grow a cover crop such as clover or winter rye, then till it in come spring. Or simply add compost to your soil.

true, plant now, but replentish the soil? they will come up in the spring, now is
also a good time to plant winter onions ,

I was taught, by my Dad to plant garlic on shortest day and harvest on longest day.
Never had a failure
