Kids have heads of steel. My younger cousin is around 12 months and he will plow straight into anything he sees. So far he's been fine :)
If it really concerns you, you could get some of those body pillows at Bed Bath & Beyond/Linen and Things and put her on top of a few of those spread out. Also a big down comforter/blanket. You could put her on your bed and set up chairs lined with blankets so she can't fall off too.
Good luck! Hope I gave you some helpful ideas :)

8 months is still very young. Also, all children develop at different ages. My daughter didin't roll over until she was close to a year old. Her younger brother rolled over when he was 7 months old. He started to walk around 9 months. Took a couple of steps and fell get up and fall again.
Your little one is learning how to use her body to move around. Once she gets crawling across the area rug-. the hard wood floor will not matter.Give her time. If she feels your frustration it will be unsettling for her.
It is very important for babys to crawl. IT corolates with the ability to read. I always recommed that if the baby walks before crawling for the mom and dad to get down on the floor and teach the baby to crawl. Make is a fun game. You might have to use your hands to move her legs before she catches on. Llike I said....make it a game and not something that you are frantically doing because you are so worried that baby isn't doing what you expect it do
Peace

My 9 month old has been crawling for almost 3 months and now he is pulling up on everything he can get his hands on. My daughter, 2 now, didn't start crawling until about 8 1/2 months.

I had the same problem with my son when he was a baby, we had all tiles, no carpet!! And he didn't crawl until he was almost 10 months and i believe it was because he couldn't get anywhere on the tiles. I ended up putting blankets down on the grass in the shade at least once a day and that's when he started to crawl! Once he knew how to do it he was fine to crawl on the tiles! I hope this helps!!

You could get those large foam floor squares, they can be used under exercise equiptment or slides, etc. I've seen them in both the toy department and hardware department. I will try to find a link and post it in a minute so you can see what I'm talking about. Also, don't worry that she hasn't crawled yet, some babies take longer to learn than others.

This was the first link I came too, I've seen them at Walmart, Toys R Us, etc in different sizes and colors. :)

I got a cataloge from ONE STEP AHEAD- they also have a website- anyway I saw a baby helmet that's used for babys just learning to craw and walk I'm thinking of getting one because my baby has hit his head a few times into a corner on the desk, trying to climb out of doorways and trying to sit up UNDER a chair. This would have been very helpful. They also had a lot of other cool stuff that I've never seen in stores. They also had those padded puzzle mats for them to play on. HTH!!!
