My 6 month old nephew shakes for about a second or so, out of the blue. This does not happen often but enough to worry us. Its like he's jumpy but there is no noise or anything causing it. What is wrong?

Could be petit mal seizures. Both my daughter and my niece have them, and it began as infants. With my niece, at first everyone thought she had been startled. Then we finally realized nothing was startling her. With my daughter, it presents as staring spells. Both are different forms of the same epilepsy. Get him checked out by a neurologist pronto.

It might be just a chill. Maybe go see the doctor? They'll probably know what to do. Just his regular doctor - don't freak out over what might be nothing. I know you are all probably very overprotective of him, which is expected, seeing as he is very young and fragile, but go see his regular doc first. Like I said...its no good worrying over what might just be a chill or normal movement. At the same time it might be serious, so get him checked out.

Best of luck, hope its nothing serious and that I've helped in your decision.

Does it only last for a few seconds? It could just be chills. My son gets the chills all the time. If it last for longer and it looks like he isn't purposely doing it, you need to get him checked out.

Take him to his doctor and write it down when he does it and how long and what he is doing at the moment. I would make appt. soon! If you don't like what the doctor says get a second answer. Good luck!
