I am going camping, and I have to be on a bus with a tour group for about 4 hours. After we get off the bus, we wil be doing rigourous camping things like pitching tents and taking hikes right away. Should I take dramamine before the 4 hour bus ride, or will it make me too sleepy to do anything when I get to the camp? Im confused. And, no, I dont have enough time to get the non-drowsy stuff at a pharmacy, too busy.

the meds will make you too drowsy for sure. if you for sure can't get the non drowsy stuff, then your just going to have to try to get a front seat on the bus and make it through.

I get motion sickness on buses and airplanes and have for 28 years. The only thing that works for me is Dramamine. I used to take 1 tablet 1 hour before the trip and I'd pass out so hard I would drool. I would be drowsy for about 4 hours total. I now take 1/2 of a regular Dramamine and I am good to go! If your bus ride is 4 hours you should be fine taking 1 tablet before you leave.

Dramamine is not that powerful. In my younger days I read that taking a bunch of Dramamine at once could cause you to hallucinate. So I took like 5 times the dosage, and I didnt get drowsy, so im guessing if you take one dose you will be alright. Or you could just buy some, and only take it if you really really need it.

Dramamine won't make you pass out. Take it about 30 mins before you get on the bus, it needs time to work. Dramamine is for motion sickness, so while it may make you a bit drowsey, it won't inhibit you from doing things around camp when you get off the bus. It will most likey wear off by then anyways.

If you are like most people I know who take it and take it an hour or so before the start of the trip the drowsiness should wear off by the time you get there. It will help if you can actually doze off during the trip. If you are concerned take a half dose. See if you can take some coffee or a caffeine drink (even a Coke) to help you wake if you need it.

Dramamine always knocked me out for a good solid 6 hours. And I am not medication sensitive.

If you don't have time to get the non-drowsy stuff, I'd suggest skipping it all together. You likely wont be up for such rigorous physical activity after being so heavily sedated.

My experience with Dramamine has not made me sleepy. I don't believe you will have a problem when you get to camp.
Have a great time!
