That could be any range of things.
Is this a dial-up modem, DSL modem, or cable modem?
What is your speedtest rate? http://speedtest.net
What kind of model is the modem? Try looking at the manufacture's sites for upgrades in drivers and firmware.
When was the last time you cleaned ad-ware, spyware, and viruses off your computer?
When was the last time you defragmented the harddisk?
When was the last time you removed unwanted programs?
What do you currently have running that also uses your internet connect (email client, instant messagers, streaming media)?
How much free space is available on your harddrive?
How much RAM does the computer have?

Do you use a router? Cycle the power on it if you do. also cycle the power on your modem, unplug it for 10 seconds, don't just use the power button. if that doesn't help it might be a firewall/NAT problem. Test the speed with your firewall off (this can be dangerous). You may need to open up some ports in your firewall or router if you have one (port forwarding).

Make sure you are free of viruses and then try repairing your connection and if that dont work unplug modem for a little while spin in three circles do a backflip, open your front door and then try it. If that doesnt work you know its your modem!

start>settings or control panel>network connections>LAC repair
and if that doesn't work get in touch with your Internet provider and get a new modem also try giving your modem a rest and un plug everything from your modem and plug it back in
then check your speed http://speedtest.net

you should state more information about ur connection type , u have antivirus running or not , your computer specs , ur modem type .. etc... but for first guess i think u should run a anti torjans.. spyware and check the running programs on windows task manager ---> process to see if there is any strange-suspicious program running and slowing ur computer and connection

Hi,
Maybe better if you check with your internet service provider (ISP). Maybe they can locate where the problem is.
You can also borrow a modem from someone else, see if that solve the problem. If not, it is probably your ISP

We need more information than that. Are you using broadband? How much ram memory does your computer have? Are you directly connected or wireless? Are there any other computers on your network if you have a network? Are you DSL or cable? What is your operating system?

Ask a friend if you could borrow his, and if the speed is still the same, call your ISP for a line checkup..
If all this fails, then start looking at software troubles, but i think it's one of the above
good luck !
