Might be from alergies since you have bad sinuses as well! Try using a humidifer to keep his nasal passages open and his nose moist. He might have a dry nasal passage from all the sinus problems he's been having. Calling the doctor is the right thing to do. Your a good parent and i think that a lot more parents should be like you! Good luck!! :)

Blood from the nostrils may be some form of EPISTAXIS. it is commonly due to trauma, may be indirectly from a fall or directly from 'nose picking' which some children commonly due! An upper airway infection e.g. common colds and flu may also inflame the nares and make it bleed easily. Among blacks, it may be associated with sickle cell anemia. Rarely it may be a manifestation of some blood disorder like leukemia (which thankfully is uncommon at your kid's age group). Bleeding generally is more 'terrifying' to the mum than the baby (jokingly perhaps because her conception and birth were heralded by bleeding and we 'instinctively' associate same with demise) Don't worry! simply make a warm or even a cold compress over the nares and your baby will be just fine. cheers! NB: if it fails to subside after 6 hours visit your physician

Only when he's crying very hard?

Infants are small, their sinuses are sensitive, and if sinus issues run in the family the force and strain of crying would be enough to rupture small capillaries when he cries.

Snot with some blood in it wouldnt be much concern.. repeated full on bloody noses probably would be.

I HAVE TWO YOUNG ADULTS, NEITHER ONE OF THEM HAD BLOODY NOSES WHEN THEY CRIED, OR WHEN SICK. SEE THE DOCTOR, ANY ONE CAN GUESS, OR SAY IT HAPPEN WITH THEIR KIDS, IT'S NOT SERIOUS, IT'S SINUSES, OR WHAT EVER. WE LIVE IN THE AGE OF INSURANCE, OR LOW COST CLINICS. THERE IS NO NEED TO LET SOMETHING THAT SEEMS SMALL GO BY WITH OUT SEEING A DOCTOR. WHO KNOWS WHAT IT COULD BE? COULD BE SINUSES, OR MAYBE A SIGN OF SOME THING SERIOUS. IT'S BETTER TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY LATER ON.

Could be any number of things from just dry nasal passages to high blood pressure. Why worry yourself tonight? Glad you are taking him to doc tomorrow. Five months is quite a while to wait!

Its good that you're calling the dr...altho it should have been much sooner.

It could be a number of things, but the first to come to mind is dry nasal passages.

Do you have a humidifier in his room?
