Can someone please explain , and use in example the term irony , so i can have a better understanding of this term? Whoever helps me out, gets the benefit of helping a curious soul. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Irony is when something happens that is the opposite of what is expected or implied. An example is a man who appears to be kind and patient, loving and caring - especialy towards women - to everyone, but fantasizes about killing his wife because she phyiscally harms their children. (I know this is sadistic, but it's the perfect example.)

well, here's the example my teacher game our class:
What you expected:
You're going to disneyland, and you think it's going to be teh best vacation of your life, you're going to ride all teh rides, your friend is going along with you, it's going to be great!
What happened:
Your friend got sick, you got stuck behind a huge car accident on the way to disneyland, so you had to spend an extra 4 hours in teh car, and your dog got car sick. you finally got to disneyland, and your sister had to go on Small World, and you had to wait in line with her all day, and didn't get to ride any other rides.
~~~
basically it means you expect one thing, and the exact opposite happens. Here are some examples from the song ironic:
old man turns 98, wins the lottery, dies the next day
Rain on your wedding day
Man who was afraid to fly in a plane, finally has to go on a plane ride, and teh plane crashes down
A death row pardon two minutes to late,
Free light when you've already paid,
Good advice you didn't take
I hope that helped =)
Oh- and it is NOT a coincidence. lol, my friend acted all high and mighty when she corrected me saying that ironic is like a coincidence-- I went home and asked everyone I knew and checked 3 online dictionaries, I was right. HA! (srry bout that, she just makes me boil sometimes...)
It's hard to explain, but here;s an example I found on wikipedia:
Arnold Schwarzenegger, an actor famous for his violence in film, campaigning against violence in video games in general.
It's ironic how he portrays violence in his films, yet he campaigns against violence in video games.
