I learned to get my self up and out before my mother woke up because of the "snot eggs". My mom used to make soft boiled eggs every morning for breakfast, she had an egg cooker set for 3 minutes, that is great if you start out at room temperature, but these were out of the refrigeraor and 3 minutes didn't set even the egg whites, they looked like snot and I just could not eat them. I learned to make toast and learned an even harder lesson, don't stick the fork in the toaster! I got electrocuted for that one.
It was easier to get to school early than have to endure those eggs

THis is a healthy choice for breakfast and you should be looking mainly at the Sugar content, fibre and Salt (unless you are on a specific diet). Ideally you should opt for a cereal that has no added sugar, especially if it has fruit. It is all good an well that the box says that it has less than 5% Fat in it (for example), but if the sugar content is high (which is often the case), then you are benefiting none with saving on the Fat content as it will be quite an unhealthy cereal. I have my cereal with Soya Milk too and people don't even notice - my husband and kids had been dairy free now for months before I told them, and they admitted that they had not realised.

My Mom didn't think cold cereal was good for you.
Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Cornmeal were the daily AM bill of fare. Always served with either oranges sliced up, or juice. And toast. Yes, I remember milk toast. That was a once-in-a-great-while treat for us. (I hated Malt O Meal.)

My mother got up at 5 a.m. to get breakfast for my Dad. It was ALWAYS bacon and eggs and toast, with a bowl of oatmeal added in the winter.
So when it came time for all 5 of us kids to eat, she was inclined to want the very least preparation time available. We were more than happy to feed ourselves cold cereal for breakfast. We had Cheerios and Rice Krispies and Sugar Crisp and Shredded Wheat. Most of them came in huge bags -- the earliest form of bulk buying. I used to love it when the Sugar Crisp got damp and would bind into large clumps. They could be picked up in the hand, and eaten as candy.

Hot and cold cereal. Corn flakes, Frosted flakes and Rice Krispies. Oatmeal and Cream of Wheat. Weekends pancakes and waffles and sometimes French toast, scrambled aggs and bacon. Never had milk toast but heard of it.

Our morning meal consisted of corn flakes in the summer and oatmeal in the winter. Lunch during the school year was two apple jelly sandwiches and if I never see another apple jelly sandwich again it will be too soon. Understand this was during the great depression when pop was trying to raise 4 kids on a minimum wage of $.25 an hour and fortunate to have a job. Mom canned the jelly and more often than not made the bread. "store bought bread" what a luxury, although pop did not like it. He called it "wind pudding."

We survived on cold cereal when we were kids. We did not have money for bacon & aggs. Once in a while we had hot oatmeal cereal. Sometimes we even had cereal for dinner.
because we liked it. Of course cereal was way cheap back then, not expensive like it is now. we used to have boxes and boxes stacked up on top of the refrigerator.

Mine was the opposite (yes to milk toast) (how about potato soup for lunch) I grew up on rice krispies & corn flakes which is probably why I don't eat them now. We usually do the big breakfast on the weekends.

Yep, we did when it was pay day. Otherwise, it was Oatmeal or Cream of Wheat. Bacon, eggs, and hominy grits were for weekends only. Never heard of milk toast.
