what is the chemical in household cleaners that reacts so violently with aluminum foil? why does it react that way? (specific chemical names plz) Thanks!!!

Not only is it chemically reactive, but the form of foil gives it a very large surface area per mass, so that much of it can react at the same time.

Aluminum corrodes rapidly with any strong base or acid. Drano is definitely a strong base.
