I'm not taking anything away from him, he is obviously a gifted player beyond his age, but there is just something about him that drives me insane.
Anyone else notice that he showboats as many goals as possible? Point in case, vs the TML 10/13/07 - the puck wasn't even near him and he was already down on one knee waiting to tap the puck in...what is that about? Like it makes it look like he's that much better because he does his knee move?? It's pointless!
And he's such a whinner in the game. Things don't go his way and he bitches and cusses out the refs and whines on the ice (watch the Sens vs Pens playoffs - non stop whinning).
So really, what is with this popularity of his? I grew up idolizing Gretzky (that was talent and composure) and yet everyone compares them to each other, but to me it's way different spectrums. So perhaps someone can explain Crosby's deal...

I never claimed to be an expert, I know that using your knee is a good method, but let me count of out all the goals I have seen scored, rarely have I seen any scored like that. Im not saying it doesn't give power or help to stop the puck slip by you, but I have never seen Ovechkin make goals on his knees (on his back yes), perhaps many players are doing so, but they arent resting on their knees waiting for the puck.
I never compared Gretzky to Crosby, I wouldn;t, but everyone calls him "the next great one" and I think like many have said he never will be (there will never be another Bambino in Baseball, so why call him the next great one?)
I think Crosby can still change his behaviour on ice, Jason Spezza was given the complex (like many young talents) that he only had to score and could play pretty, and with the help of his current coaches he has been learning to be more responsible for his actions, still needs work but becoming a better player, Crosby could learn!

Mike - perhaps people are jealous of him, I mean who wouldnt be jealous of someone making millions of dollars at 20yrs old, to be able to retire by 40 rich and popular as ever, and having lots of young girls want you.
personally, not me, Im female so really I dont envy his life, even if I were a guy coz I can only imagine the pressure he faces (and the stories Ive been told) but its not a reason for me to "bash" him or "take him down a peg" Im trying to understand his methodology in this game, and perhaps I have some old schooling methods in my head, but really Im not jealous of him and I dont want his fame, so Im not saying anything to make myself feel better, but thats just me...

You have to look at Crosby's junior coach that molded his team into a bunch of whiners, most evident in the 2005(?) Memorial Cup (The one London won). He was taught to draw penalties that way and it worked in the QMJHL, so he has continued this attitude in the NHL. But fear not, he is getting better, and the more he matures as a player the less he will do all that whining.
And about the knee thing, its to get more power behind his shot, Brett Hull scored about 500 on his knee, so it must be a good strategy.

Wow. "Anyone else notice that he showboats as many goals as possible? Point in case, vs the TML 10/13/07 - the puck wasn't even near him and he was already down on one knee waiting to tap the puck in...what is that about? Like it makes it look like he's that much better because he does his knee move?? It's pointless!"
Point in case, it is NOT pointless. The going down on one knee serves a purpose in leverage and keeping the puck in front of him for shots or tap-ins. Cripes, Brett Hull made a living off of that move.
As for the comparisons to Gretzky, you can't compare the two but Crosby has already done some great things and actually bettered a couple of Gretzky's records already. Appreciate it for what it is- TALENT AND COMPOSURE.
BTW, Gretzky did whine, as have most stars. The difference with Gretzky is that when someone wronged him, Dave Semenko or Marty McSorely would often do the talking in the form of beating the offender to a pulp............but being a huge Gretzky fan, I guess you already knew that.
Every player has his detractors, especially when they are stars. They look for something about their game to prey upon, Crosby doesn't really have many flaws in his game, so people call him a whiner. Gretzky didn't have many flaws so they called him a big wimp, which in all fairness, he was.

No, he's not puffed up under no circumstances he's in simple terms the main suitable participant interior the NHL. he's that good he's wonderful and in the adventure that your the main suitable interior the sport each and every little element that occurs is over analyzed and human beings flow "hey he's a whiner all he does is whine." whilst Crosby is in simple terms too busy making beneficial that p.c.. get's into the back of the internet to be that a great number of a whiner. So now if all he does is cry to the reffs then how does he land up getting 386 factors in 280 video games. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are no longer even interior the comparable league as Crosby. the two good stable gamers yet no longer Crosby good. Datsyuk over his 7 year occupation with 515 video games performed in hassle-free terms has 512 factors Crosby over his 4 year occupation has 386 factors in 280 video games Zetterberg over his 6 year occupation with 421 video games performed in hassle-free terms has 395 factors.

he doesn't intentionally showboat his goals.
it just so happens that he's often in the right place at the right time.
just because he can follow a play and see the ice well, doesn't mean he's showboating it.
and he doesn't whine that much now.
he's simply fighting for things within reason.
crosby's a really good player.
teams would love to have him.
besides, crosby is still pretty young.
he just turned twenty this summer -- at this rate, he could even be better than gretzky by the time he's 25.

crosby is amazing, going on your knee to shoot hockey 101 miss hockey know it all and crosby is playing the game as it should be played ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ICE something u could say that 70-80% of all the hall of famers now didnt do on the level that crosby is doing it now. You talk about a whinner look at gretzky, he was the same way, if u want a look at a real player look at mario lemeuix, the most gifted player to ever put on skates, oh yeah and devils girl is just so pissed b/c the pens raped the devils on a regular basis.
o nice that u bring up spezza, the biggest cry baby of them all lol, dont ever compair ovechkin and crosby together b/c yeah ovechkin can score, but he doesnt utilize any other players in his team, crosby is dealing out assists like they're going out of style, and ovechkin is trying to do it all himself so yeah dont go on about ovechkin p.s. hes had more time to mature than sid has

Living in Pittsburgh I go to every game I can. As I watch I notice this about Crosby. This isn't just him though its the whole team that needs an attitude adjustment. The leaders need to be Recchi and Roberts. But Shero wants to mainly focus on the future of the instead of present. That is what causes it all.

He goes down on one knee to use his body to block the puck from getting past him. Even is the puck goes in off his knee into the net it is a goal. It is basic hockey. More players should try this move but they are too good for hockey basics.

he had a sex change when he was 13
that's wear the whining comes from..i know exactly what your talking about..welcome to the Crosby haters. he thinks since he's the next "great one" he can't be touched on the ice, and he tries to make everything he does look hard so people think he makes an amazing play when it's just a good play. no doubt about it, he's a great player, but he does **** defensivly..EX: against the devils last year he made 3 passes in his defensive zone that all turned into devils goals..
and remember people Eric Lindros was once the next "great one" and look was hapened to him. dammit, where's scott stevens when you need him? oh yeah, he's in the HOF =D
there will never be another great one..
and seriously..he has one playoff win..ONE!! wait until he actually has some playoof success before saying he's gonna be a great!

awesome bill, you are the typical flyer fan.
loud and obnoxious, not to mention you know nothing.
Lindros spoiled? he gave his heart and soul to the flyers, yet was screwed by the organiztion.
Crosby was hi sticked in the mouth by the hatchet man hatcher. If a flyer had been attacked that way flyer fans would be out for blood.
Look at the repeats of that, it was sick.
Funny flyer fans call Crosby a diver when the king of divers (Bill Barber) was a flyer, not to mention Foresberg who had the reputation as being the biggest whiner and diver in the league.
All players of elite status are whiners, regardless of the sport, look at Bobby Clark he was one of the worst.

I beg to differ but Crosby has not proven to be the NEXT anything.
One or two seasons do not a career make.
There have been all kinds of players who make a big splash for a year or two and then fade away.
Ten years from now we will be able to gauge his legacy.
