Concerning the congress, you're right, they have been acting quite strange for a long time.
Concerning the Armenian Genocide please see my response to the question at the link:

It is not hypocrisy to address this issue since the whole world has been addressing this issue for several months. Even PBS which is generally silent or very low profile on this issue has repeated stories on this issue in recent months.
As for the issue of minority denegration in the US, both the government and the populace has been addressing these issues since before the American Revolution. We fought a Civil War to see emancipation. American Natives are still treated badly but because of TV, the Radio, and other media, the issue has had tremendous attention over the last 2 or 3 decades.
It was Hitler who said"Since the world didn't care what the Turks did to the Armenians, it won't care what we do to the Jews".
Well the world does care. We are very concerned and these issues need to be addressed constantly. The price of freedom is vigilance.
Who will speak for the hundreds of thousands of Christians and Animists that were murdered by Amin?
Who will speak for the 2 1/2 to 3 million Asians that were tortured and murdered by the commies when the US deserted Viet Nam?
Who will speak for the untold millions tortured and murdered by Stalin?
Who will speak for the untold millions tortured and murdered by Mao in the cultural revolution?
Who will speak for the 2 million Sudanese that have been tortured, enslaved and murdered by the Muslims?
If not the Congress of the United States then who?

I'm an American...and I'm Armenian. If this is my country, then in matters to me. Therefore, I will ask my congress represetatives to pass it. From the depths of my very being, I want this recognized. Its been 92 years..let us have some dignity.
Armenian-Americans have been lobbying and protesting for official recognition for DECADES. For Armenians, it has nothing to do with Democrats versus Republicans, or the war in Iraq. All we want, is the official recognition of an event that happened to our people, by the government we live, work, vote and pay tax in.
So far, 24 countries, including the European Union have recognized the Genocide.
Don't you think that a Genocide that has been denied for 92 years should be recognized as an actual event?
Yes, the Native American genocide should be officially recognized. In fact, In "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, Zinn argues that Columbus and his men committed genocide, and therefore it should be recognized. Slavery you ask? Wouldnt you stand up to people who claim that slavery did not occur. It was a long time ago correct? Why should it matter? Because we are all human..and if one person hurts...we should care!
The resolution is non-binding, it is merely symbolic.
All it means is that: from this point on, the U.S. officially accepts what happened to the Armenians as a "genocide"..The "g" word causes problems with Turkey...
In fact, in Turkey, if you say the "g" word in terms of the Armenians, you are thrown in prison..(Penal code 301).
Secondly, if we recognize past crimes against humanity, we will be in better position to reprimand the on-going ones, like Darfur. What kind of messege would the U.S. be sending by vetoing it?
Tom Lantos, mentioned that Turkey needs the U.S., more than the U.S. needs Turkey. As always, when a country recognizes the Armenian genocide (like Canada and France), Turkey bitches about it for a couple weeks, then gets over it.

The stupid libs in Congress would be very pleased if the Turks invaded Northern Iraq and started killing Kurds so that the most successful part of the Iraq thing could go South and they could blame it on the President. I keep saying that there's no low that the libs won't sink to when it comes to punishing the President. From idiots like Dingy Harry Reid declaring that the war is lost, to the despicable Petraeus ad to this totally boneheaded move, the libs are doing everything that they can to sabotage American efforts in Iraq.

Does Congress think at all to begin with? Their turning over for the Mexican truckers here things like this doesn't really surprise me for what they do. I agree that they turn a blind eye to the genocide which is going on now. They do that because they don't get any advantages out of drawing attention to it. It doesn't matter if they are Democratic or Republican they are all the same.

Political wrangling. Pelosi spouted off on This Morning w/George Stephanopoulos "The President has said nothing to me yet". Igit, I saw him on TV myself begging for them to reconsider & realize the consequences.
The motion won't go on the floor, if ever, until later this year. More photo ops for a fruit loop named Nancy. It's a distraction the panel told my man George. Just more BS from our sparkling Democratic out of control Congress. Meanwhile in Turkey Generals are steaming and planning to whack the Kurddism regime in their country that's leaks into Northern Iraq. Our allies? We need Turkey the fool. Over a 90 yr old war crime? Hell we excused Bubba for his illegal activities and the Mrs. is on deck to wreck the US further than her husband did.
Thinking with political gain, bias and malice. Contemptable.
Same, same as Hillary changes her mind here ...AGAIN! Some President she will make?!

What is Congress thinking?
How can we screw Bush and lose this war once and for all so that we can have all the power to ourselves and get Hillary elected? That is what I think that they are thinking.

you guys ALWAYS blame you're screw ups on someone else -- you'll NEVER change
the FACT is we wouldn't have to worry about stepping on MUSLIM toes about a genocide committed against CHRISTIANS if Bush hadn't invaded THE WRONG COUNTRY
and if you think the Turks are thinking of invading because of a resolution passed in the US - you really ARE stupid
