Purchased an external 120gig freecom h/drive for laptop 3 days ago - needed for my university work - backed up all my data and was working fine then suddenly just stopped working. the power is running through it but none of my pc's will pick it up at all- any way at all please of rescuing my data stored on there its all my years uni work im desperate but cant afford the £100 pcworld techguys want to charge for data recovery

thanks anyways - took it back to pcworld and got a refund as there was nothing they could do for me as it was a mechanical fault. ive now asked an IT specialist to build me a more suitable hdd

Try another usb port, the one your using may be bad or not picking it up.

Or you can open up your computer case and add the drive to you ATA cable.

There is a program online that you can use that can scan your PC for lost software. You get a free 30 day use of it. It's called System Mechanic 7. It is a PC optimizer but it also has on it a program that can scan your drive for lost software.

You should be able to go to the place you got it from and have then retrieve it for free and also replace the bad drive they gave you.
