Burned hair
Burned platic
or a dead dog in the ditch after it rains.
Happened when I was a kid right in front of our house. Had the whole neighborhood smelling. County had to come out and put sandbags on the openings to the pipes under the driveway to block the scent.

Rotten food left in the garbage to long. Also, cat pee. It's impossible to get that smell out. I've had to throw away a lot of furniture, rugs, etc because of my male cat before he was fixed.
