RAM - Random Access Memory - This is where your OS stores things when running. Contents can change.

ROM - Read Only Memory - such as that in the BIOS, however newer computers use EPROM (or 'Flash' memory) which CAN be changed by a special program such as used in updating the BIOS.

EPROM - Electrically Programmable Read Only Memory.

RAM and ROM typicaly mean the same thing. The only difference is that Macintosh uses the ROM term and IBM compatibles use RAM.
