The measure of the vertex angle of an isosceles triangle is 5 less than twice the measure of a base angle. Find the measure of a base angle.

b = base angle; v = vertex angle

isosceles triangle has two sides the same (also two angles the same)

v + 2b = 180 (measure of all angles adds to 180)

v = 2b - 5 (from the problem)

(2b - 5) + 2b = 180
4b = 175
b = 47.5 degrees
