It varies. The U.S. Bureau of Engraving, which prints US banknotes, has two facilities, in Washington D.C. and Fort Worth, Texas. Mexican banknotes are printed by the Banco de Mexico printing works in Mexico City.
Smaller countries, like Kenya and the Dominican Republic, use large commercial security printers in Europe. These printers include Thomas de la Rue, Francois-Charles Oberthur, and Gieseke-Devrient.
Euros are printed at a mixture of state printers and private printers. In fact, Euros are printed at 18 different facilities in at least eight different countries.
