What would the precise term be for the need an addict has for drugs after being away for one day too long? That craving? A want, a need, a desire... I can't find a strong enough word.
Secondly, what is the precise term for power, as in "control"? The term for having complete control over the life or death of a person?
See what you come up with, and then put them together, and you might see what I'm driving at.

One more detail for those continuing to answer (and thank you so much to those who've already answered!) - the first word needs to be a verb somewhere between "lust" (simple desire) and "need" (and I also need it!!). It's the first word I really want an answer for.

An addict has a cell-deep dependency on the drugs. It goes beyond desire or even passion, it is a necessity.
Despotism would be a word for that degree of control.

Breath.....or so it might feel like the taking of one.
Hmm, actually "addiction" seems the "word" of discription for a reason and it is a strong word on its own. Although I think I am going to go with;
"Pathological"
AND......
"Consumption" comes to mind for the second but I think there I will go with;
"Dictator"
