These Programs and initiatives we would not be enjoying the benefits of GPS systems,Blue Tooth Technology that we enjoy today?

On March 23, 1983, when Ronald Regan announced to the world his Strategic Defense Initiative aka "Star Wars" program there was so much critisism.

The spy satellites initially invented for National Security and the defense system has lead to the SATELLITE programs that we are benefitting from.

What do you think now knowing that this has advanced modern day life?
Are you as critical of Nasa and their programs knowing this?
What is your view on this?

I wish NASA had the initiative it used to. Now it seems to worry more about budget. During the cold war, all you had to say was "the Russians are doing it first", and things got done.

katiekca:
A) NASA has created the foundation to much of the technology we use today. From cell phones to efficient air conditioning.

B) NASA isn't entirely space oriented. It also does meteorological research, and much of our understanding of weather is due to NASA. And also aerodynamics and flight design.

I've always been a supporter of NASA and the space program, but I don't use GPS, Bluetooth, or even a cell phone. I think we need to develop our ability to colonize space because Earth is only so big. If our population keeps growing at the rate it currently is, wewill have severe problems unless we can start moving some of the population off of the planet.

While I understand Katie's point completely I also believe NASA has given us a better life from the technologies developed through the program.

In a perfect world, funding should be found and made available for both science and helping the needy.

I'm not 100% with NASA... THink about it, all the billions of dollars consumed by them could go to finding a cure for AIDS!!! Do you understand the we will NEVER live on Saturn or the Moon?! I only support it if its actually going to make life better for us... not some make believe fairytale life of living on Jupiter.

I've never been critical about NASA.
I believe some people were critical back then because they had a fear of the unknown.
