Sorry, I don't know anything about modeling or how to get involved in the modeling industry.
I am in complete agreement with those expressing their regret that our society considers 12s and 14s to be plus sizes. It's disgusting. I was looking at one of the fatty magazines recently. (I don't call them fatty magazines to be disrespectful... I'm being sarcastic, because they claim to be for the plus sized woman but their photographs never include large women.) Anyway, it contained an article about how plus sized women can be happy and self-satisfied. After the article there were pictures of a bunch of so-called plus sized women and information about them (names, ages, occupations, weight, pant sizes, and so on...). I couldn't believe what I saw. It included women as small as a size 6! What is our society coming to when we consider a size 6 to be a plus size?!?!?! PATHETIC!!!!

Do not get locked into a contract that would interfere with your studies. Research the agencies and go with a reputable one. While 12/14 is the average size of an American Woman and is a good and lovely size; in the modeling world it is considered woman's size. Typical fashion models are size 4 or less. It is nice to see someone representing us typical women. Good luck.
Obviously some who are responding are not familiar with the industry. When my boyfriend and I were in college, we both modeled for department and specialty stores. Department stores sponsor promotional and charitable activities all the time. Local Broadcast and cable stations use models extensively for commercials. You are not an ugly person. Apparently there are small minded people responding to your question. Take their answers for what they are worth.

I just think it's sad that society consider's 12/14 Plus seized... I'm the same size, but I'm also 5'9... It's rediculous that all of my clothes are bought out of the Plus sized section in stores... I think modeling will be very feasible for you depending on whether or not the area you live in has modeling agencies and what not... Go go girl!!! Represent for us big girls...LOL... I wish you much success!!!

It's a sad world when 12/14 is considered 'plus size'.
Plus size models have to be in proportion and as tall as 'regular' models. A lot of these models have been regular models but didn't want to go to extreme lengths to keep to the 'perfect' size.
Have a look at the really successful plus size models such as Emme.

Well I'm guess your not in America by the way you answered your question. The best way to get into modeling take some poloroids of yourself.
1Headshot
2 Body (bikini shot)
3. Full body shot (clothed)
Then go to the biggest modeling agencies or make an appt. Take the pictures w/ you & see what they say. Worlwide Wilahmenia modeling agency is big so is Ford Models, and Elite.

LOL @ the men above me. :P
Anyway, I doubt you'll be able to do that sort of stuff part time.
There is little demand for plus size models, and the ones that are famous are much more beautiful than the normal models. The standards are higher.
I'm not saying that you're ugly, but it's not the sort of thing that you can just "try".
Why not sell some of your eggs instead?

modelling and studying could be difficult. Why not do bar work?
You could look up some modelling agencies in your area and see what exactly it would involve.
