If you have hooked up a mouse, your software can't find it.
Older computers require drivers for a particular mouse type, if your operating system is older than win xp or win2000. Go to www.majorgeeks.com, download and install it. good luck.

is the mouse plugged up in the correct serial slot?

may need to restart in 'safe' mode (F8)
