It is fine to give a 13day old baby water but they don't need it. The breast or formula provide more than enough to keep the child hydrated. In the past mothers used a formula of cows milk, distilled water and corn syrup with vitamins - this recipe made children very thirsty because of the syrup and most Dr's recommended the additional water to additional feedings to prevent infant obesity and help the kidneys function properly - corn syrup can be tough on the kidneys if you aren't well hydrated.
Hope this helped!

You can but there is no reason to. They should be getting plenty of fluids from formula or breast milk. Most doctors dont recommend water until the baby is 6 months old.

No, why would you give your baby water. They need all the nutrients they can get from the baby milk. If you give them water and baby milk, the baby will be missing out on their full days of nutrients. Only if the doctor tells you too.

Technically, sure - you make formula with it, so of course they can handle it. But why? Unless there's a medical reason (of which I've never heard of) your baby does not need it and too much (the actual amount you won't know until it's too late) can cause water poisoning.

no u cannot theres already water in formula and breast milk that's all they need till 6 months old then water is introduced Slowly..
the reason its silly to give water is b/c this baby is growing and water has Nothing in it.... formula has food, vitamins etc same as breast milk...
so theres no need for water plain they already have enough water from their milk .

I have five children and have given them all water. Especially if it is hot outside. I never give much. just a couple swallows after their bottles, to rinse out the mouth from the formula residue, and to help hydrate them. I couldn't immagine going a year without water, and as long as they eat first, you have no problems. The problem is when mom's give the water first, the baby fills up on it and then doesn't eat as much as they should. I look at it like this, my great grandma ( 3 kids), my grandma ( 6 kids) and my mom ( 3 kids) all gave warm water when belly's were upset or when it was hot and we were never "collicky" or fussy. It is your choice. Good luck

They "can", in that it is physically possible however:
1) The risk of choking is higher
2) It can cause malnutrition or jaundice by taking the place of breastmilk or formula
3) Unless it is sterile it can cause infection, and even sterile water can contain things such as nitrates.
4) It stresses the kidneys
5) It can cause water intoxication by diluting the blood, which can cause death. Contrary to what mom may tell you since they have been telling parents no water under 6 months the number of infants dying from water intoxication has decreased.
