That's what I do all my life. I don't have a car (though I have a license) so I walk nearly anywhere within a 20' radius, including supermarket (carrying load home).

I do and have for a while. The town I live in is small enough that this is possible. The only problems I tend to have are grocery shopping and getting to work. I work early, so it is still dark out when I leave and I don't feel incredibly safe, but I manage. I am able to bus to the grocery store and cab home twice a month, so this works for me. My body is used to the exsercise of walking everywhere, and the public transportation is decent. I have no plans on buying a car in the future either. If I lived in a city where the public transportation was non existant and there weren't things in walking distance I'd get a car. I;d also feel the need to have a car if I had kids. Right now I don't have either, so I'm doing just fine. Plus I get daily exercise and am doing my little bit to help the planet.

I used to, when I was in high school but in the freshman year of college, I got a car and after that, taking public transportation is really really hard, I can walk but going in a bus or train, I think twice. I live in NJ, and most people take trains to go to NY,but I always preferred driving, I don't know why I just cant do that anymore.
I love my car but If I have to, I think I wont use it only in desperation.

I can't possibly where I live in a rural community where the nearest major grocery store is 20 miles away. I would dearly love not to have to drive a car. I think the scooters are terrific, however, where would I place groceries for a week? I would have to grocery shop on a daily basis. We are victims of our society where a lot of us live outside the city limits where transportation by auto has a captive audience.

You can if you live in a city where there is good public transportation. I don't have a car and it is okay. I live in Seattle right now. In Portland it was the same. In South Lake Tahoe, California and Breckenridge, Colorado you would have to have a car because they're small towns and have really bad bus systems.

If you live close to downtown, and it's a big city with good public transportation, I'm sure you can. I did in college for years. Downtown, a bicycle is much more convenient; with traffic in some palces, it's faster.
If you live in the suburbs where the nearest grocery store is half a mile away, and the bus comes every half hour - well, good luck!

yeah you could live but i may be harder in certain areas, like in new york city it is HARDER havin a car rather than using public trans. but if you live in a country or wide spread area taxi fees may run pretty damn expensive, but then again think of all the money you would put into your own car i.e gas, fixin it, buying the actual car etc... the one thing i would say is hard is if you want to go out on a lil trip with your friends of if you have a lil emergancy you cant just get in your car and go!

Not where I live - the transport is awful.
If I lived in a major city with regular and reliable routes, that were easy to understand I certainly would.
