Isnt there a drainage hose to accomodate the condensation? Ours leads to a floor drain. I know when it has fallen off a few times theres a big puddle.

It sounds like it is a high efficiency furnace. These units usually produce condensate during operation. This is normally drained from the furnace. It could be that your drain is clogged or the trap on the condensate drain is clogged. For more info, check out the furnace page at www.hvac-for-beginners.com

This is from condensation, much unlike the exhaust pipe on your car in cold weather. Look at the exhaust pipe as it warms up, it leaks water, it's the same principal. Once the pipe warms up, it will stop and the condensation will evaporate up in the chimney, you'll see this on cold days as white smoke.
