Ive been hearing alot of successful overclocking stories about using a E2140 @ 3 ghz, are the temps stable using air cooling or are they high?

also how well would a p4 2.6 northwood overclock on air cooling ?

You can fiddle around with overclocking but from my experience the systems always overheat... I recommend you get a water-cooling system or make a plan for the excessive heat that will be produced by your machine...

The chances of burning or damaging the CPU is very high... There are safe programs for overclocking:
♦ CPU burn-in
♦ CPU speed
♦ CPUcool
♦ Cpuldle Extreme
♦ HeavyLoad

Good luck champ, just don't damage you system.

okay, ive never overclocked either BUT(i have overclocked the e6600 on stock air cooling to 2.7 ghz stably), the duo's are usually pretty good with overclocking and air works jsut fine for cvoerclocking, now im not sure if youll be bale to get that one to 3 ghz, try it, overclock a little leave it and see if it is stable and repeat until you get to desired or maximum level. the penitum 4's were usually pretty hot, and dont overclock all that good, so it wouldnt work all that well but you could do it but it would be mor eprone to crashing. dont worry about burning the cpu, because as long as you go in small increments it wont burn it up, if you do go over its limit the most that usually hppens is the thing overheats and crashes with a blue screen.

water coolings good, BUT EXPENSIVE

3 is pretty high for that processor, but you can probably get there, just make sure you have 800Mhz speed RAM. As for temps, if you buy a good air cooler, you should be alright, the temps will get into the upper 50's and lower 60's, but you can run it there. Liquid cooling is not necessary, just a good air cooler, the Enzotech Ultra-X or the Thermalright Ultra-120.
