I just got 6 female mice about a week ago from Petco. I was watching them today and one seems fatter than the others. She is active, goes on the wheel, but her stomach is pretty wide on both of the sides. She also seems to build the nest for the group. I was wondering if this is a possible mouse pregnancy and what to do if it is. Thanks.

It is very possible to purchase a pregnant female mouse from a petshop, espeically a large chain store like Petco. I myself have gotten several pregnant females from them in the past. Are they young? If so I would sperate the possibly pregnant female from the others into a small cage. Sometimes in groups of females when one gives birth the others can eat the babies, or even the mother might eat her own babies if she is overly stressed by other cagemates. So, put her into a cage by herself (a 10 gallon fish tank with lid or one of other plastic animal cages with the snap on lid, get a big one, they aren't expensive), with a water bottle or bowl, food bowl, wheel, maybe a tube, and some soft bedding material to build a nest with like some shredded cotton balls or very soft toilet paper squares. Don't use pine or cedar shavings for any of your mice, Aspen wood shavings or one of the recycled paper beddings like care fresh or yesterday's news is great. Pine and Cedar both give off Phenol (that lovely scent they add but they also contain it naturally) which is horrible to inhale for any small mammals and can lead to respitory problems, especially raising a litter in it.
Keep the female in question seperated for about 3 weeks. The mouse gestation period is around 19 days, averaging between 18 and 20 days. If she does give birth don't handle the babies unless absolutly nessesary when they are under a week old and anytime you muct handle them while they are "pinkies" you should always rub your hands in the tank bedding first to help mask the smell of your hands and I usually remove the female to a container of some kind while I check babies. It's very stressful for a female with new babies to see a giant hand come in and mess with them and the stress can actually cause her to kill them, though that is a rarity and not the norm. You will know she's given birth by the tiny squeeks and squeals you hear from the nest, which will be built up somewhat to keep them warm and prevent viewing. You may also see some small spots of blood and afterbirth on the bedding surrounding the nest but usually mice are very good about cleaning up after their birth. If you have any worries about the baby's being nursed by the mother the best way to check is to take a baby and turn it over and hold it in the light. Since they are so pink you can virutally see their organs under the skin. In a well fed baby you can actually see the stomach full of white milk when you turn them over. But be gentle!
The baby's nurse on the mother for 4 weeks. By 10 days they will have fur. They sexually mature at 8 weeks of age and at around 6 weeks I normally seperate the males from females.
If she is pregnant you may have some trouble introducing her back into the other 5 females once she has completed raising her litter. I would reccommend that while you seperate her from the rest that you still let her visit with them so they stay used to her and don't view her as a threat later. Just don't leave her with them overnight, you wouldn't want her to give birth with them.
One very good way to tell if she's pregnant is to look at her belly. If you can see all of her nipples very clearly I would say there is a 90% chance of pregnancy. Good luck.

Guess what. Mice can get pregnant at one month old. If she was in the cage for a few weeks at the pet store before you got her, chances are you'll have about ten tiny pink bundles of joy (or more, she may not be the only one!) on your hands!

i think of it sounds like it relatively is totally probable pregnant. in case you think of that's good, they yey, supply her some room and a advantageous place for her infants (you would be wanting to intercourse them ASAP or they are going to have greater!). this may well be irritating as you may locate you have 5 women and a male, and that i do no longer think of you may breed them until eventually you surely could desire to. circulate on your vet, he can intercourse all your little mice and you will see in case you have have been given all women or no longer. yet definite, there's plausible that she's been close to a male, so seek for suggestion from the placement you acquire it from just to enable them to appreciate, or to whinge that they have got given you a pregnant mouse. The vet will understand if she's pregnant or no longer, yet i think of evidently like she is. If her face is overweight (no longer while she has foodstuff in her cheeks) then she could basically be fat, yet that would not tend to in common terms be around the tummy section. circulate examine it out :) If the mouse is pregnant, take it to the vet, and while they infants are born, take them to the vet, you will could desire to get them sexed ASAP, mice develop into sexually lively very immediately and you will finally end up with a rampage on your arms in case you do no longer type it out. supply the toddlers loving homes, or shop your adult males and girls separate.
