the ipod touch is completely independent from any phone company. It can be used without phone service

no because ipod touch is just ipod not a phone ,and about surfing the internet you can log in ,in any spot that offer WiFi ,without any problems .

No, the iPod Touch does not require AT&T to browse the Internet or YouTube. You just need to be in a WiFi network for it to work. The iphone dpes require AT&T.
