How do you first approach someone on myspace without sounding desperate/weird?

Obviously you don't know the person...so what do you say?

I'm not talking about for dating, just approaching someone as a friend.

Just request that person with no explanation, many people do that. Most of the time the person will check out your profile and if they are interested in being your friend they will add you. It’s Simple as that.
