Personally, as a matter of opinion, I don't think you can really teach yourself to hold your temper unless you really want to hold it. For me, as a Christian, I have good reason to help my temper.

Lo and behold! - the oft-repeated, now cliche phrase: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Even if you aren't a Christian, the Bible has a few good points. If you want to, you can read Galatians for some inspiration. Good stuff there if you really want help.

Does a flaring temper really accomplish anything other than venting ones anger and hurting others with words or actions, something that one cannot take back. Also, if temper is exercised in private, does that make anyone feel better. The notion that it is best to "let it all out" doesn't hold up as a way to deal with anger. Yes, you can. You can take small steps- when you start to feel frustrated/ impatient/ whatever, try to first see why you feel that way, and then try to look at the problem rationally. Try to keep calm, and solve the problem at hand. Just be aware of how you feel, and do your best to learn to act and think with reason.
