Where can I learn how to service a saxophone and can I buy any books or kits to help me?

Most techs started in instrument repair doing exactly what you're thinking of - they experimented on their own horn. I suggest though that you buy a beginner horn on eBay (or a yardsale) and learn on that.

The Erik Brand repair manual is among the best if you can find a copy. Ferree's tools is my favorite place for tools.

you can keep the sax clean yourself using your cloths and pull through. to service the pads you will need to take it to a music shop. they are not cheap though
