I heard a song a few months ago and i remember it from the 80's. It was an instrumental with violins (it was beening played at intermission for a high school orchestra performance - i asked but no one knew the title or artist). I can't for the life of me find this song, and not knowing the artist makes it even harder.

Anyone know the name of a band who had a top 40 hit with an instrumental (with violins).

TIA

Hmm, thanks guys, but ELO was a 70's band - the song i'm thinking of is 80's all the way.

I agree with the other post. The Electric Light Orchestra is probably your best bet when it comes to popular songs that used a violin.

Could it be "Hooked On Classics" by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra?
