the Blitz was when the German bombers flew over the East end of London, to the docks and set the docks alight on the afternoon,in September 1940/41,and came back on the same night to continue bombing the East end of London,the bombing went on for a long time,and also they bombed other Cities,Plymouth-Coventry-BirmimghamDover to name but a few.The word comes from the German word Blitzkrieg.

The German air force would fly over Britain's main cities especially London's East End mainly at night, they would drops bombs all over the cities, destroying buildings and killing many civilians. Their was a alarm that rang at the start of each air raid so people would hopefully have time to get into their air raid shelter or underground shelter in time!!

This is what the British called German bombing in WWII. Blitz is German for lightning. Krieg means war. The Germans themselves bragged of inventing blitzkrieg, lightning (fast) war. Also, two of Santa's reindeer are Donner and Blitzen (Thunder and Lightning).

the Germans made missiles with bombs on them and fired them at London England mainly but they bombed other English towns and killed many 1000s of people during world war two.many people left London and moved to the country side.
