The question is the answer? eh? Means the purpose of life is to have a purpose in life? Hmmmm well it makes sense, but something is always missing in such statements.

we spend our lives trying to answer this questions without getting anywhere closer to a conclusive solution. I'd say the purpose of life is to pass this question to the next generation so they would also waste endless amount of time trying to come up with clever and intelligent answers which all mean the same thing: we haven't got a clue what the universal purpose of life is therefore each individual has their own purpose...mine is not too spend any more time answering questions without answers; enjoy everyday more then the last and look at life as a macrocosm because small things that upset us daily need absolutely nothing in the big picture.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

there is no right or wrong answer..everyone has a purpose in life that only god knows, the real question is: have you found out what YOUR purpose in life is yet? I think one discovers the answer when you are humble happy and living your life with no regrets, everything will just fall into place if you are doing the right thing.

The purpose of life is to know the Supreme Intelligence of the Universe.
This one quest will deliver all that is good in this life to the seeker.
Then one day the seeker will be free,
And realize that the cherished goal,
Was within the Self all along~

Purpose is inherent in who you are, your purpose gave birth to you. Everything has a purpose. If you live in high principles, your purpose will come through.
