The old bumper stickers (and the National Battlesite of the Little Big Horn) said that "Jesus Died For Your Sins". Well, soldiers, sailors, marines, coast guard and airmen died for your freedoms.
That is what it means: if someone did not fight, some dying, there would be no freedom. It took a war to acquire freedom: it takes constant vigilance and more wars to maintain freedom, including Iran, Iraq, North Korea, where ever, when ever.

First the term "freedom isn't free" means that it's something that needs to be protected, and when need be, like now, needs to be fought for, Second, there are going to be those, like Hitler, or the Soviet Union, or the Chinese or the Islamists who would give anything to take that freedom away from you and put you under their control. There are many who will poo-poo that statement and say "oh that would never happen" and that's precisely when it will happen.

How was it free when people died to create the freedom we have now?. We paid for it by giving lives. Just look back in history.. Same story just different war.

if you don't understand why freedom is not free, you need to serve in the military for a while, then you will understand!

"Freedom isn't free" generally means that it doesn't just happen -- it must be achieved, protected, and paid for by constant vigilance and attention.
