My inlaws sent me flowers for my birthday....When I called to say thanx no one answered the phone.I know they were home.I haven't talked to them for some time(except on Father inlaw's birthday when I CALLED to say happy birthday).I feel like they sent the flowers for good form instead of to be friendly...this insults me.I would rather they sent nothing at all..........Would you be upset?

I would say no. But in the future, I wouldn't truly acknowledge them either. Remove yourself emotionally out of this picture, you know? If that's how they treat you, then this is how you handle it. Your husband should I say something to them, and if he doesn't or can't see it, that's a different issue. Me personally, I don't waste my time on stuff like that. But I'm one of those too that if you like me, great =) if not, that's fine too. They aren't going out of their way to be polite to you, so therefore, I would give it right back. Let them figure it out =)

It's possible when you called to say "Thank you" that one was in the shower and the other was outside watering the flowers, or whatever. If your in-laws didn't like you, they could have ignored your birthday. I think it was a nice gesture on their part and you should not think otherwise. You actually would be less insulted if they had done nothing? You obviously have issues with your in-laws. Let it go. You could have the type of in-laws that are stopping by every day.

No I wouldn't be upset. Leave a message and call it good. You shouldn't read other peoples mind and assume they were home. After all they didn't have to send anything on your birthday. Sounds to me that they went out of their way to remember your b-day in the first place. Just be gracious and say thank you.

I wouldn't be upset.
How do you know for sure that they were home? And, even if they were... they could have been busy and didn't hear the phone.
I think that if they took out the time to spend their money on sending you flowers, you were obvioulsy on their mind and they apparently care enough to think of you, to send you something.
