I owned an 86, I believe it was the first year of the EVO Sportsters (maybe it was the second). The only thing I regretted about the bike it was chain drive and only a 4 speed transmission. It you can afford a newer one with belt drive 5 speed do it, it makes alot of difference.

It is the first Evo sporty, does have a 4sp. and chain. Not a bad choice for an older sporty but the 04 and up XL's are far superior. Is it a cost issue or just like the older ones? How much to you intend on paying for the 86?
