I think that young people will gain at least somewhat of an interest in the upcoming election due to the fact that we now have candidates that break the usual mold of 'aging white male'.
There are so many issues plaging the nation though, that more and more teens are looking for change. Especially with the super popular 'hate bush' mindset young voters have. Im hoping that record numbers vote.
But then again, you never know. Many don't care, and even more think that the election doesn't matter, and things are going to stay the same regardless of who wins, so why bother voting?

If we're talking about the primaries I doubt it will change young voter turnout much. Obama is apparently doing well with appeal among younger voters, and he may convince a few more to participate in the primaries than would have otherwise, but overall young turnout in this early stage is going to be abysmal as it always it.
However for the general election I could see it being a motivating force. I think young people could really get motivated by trying to elect the first woman or African American president. It's at least more than two white guys competing for the Presidency, makes it more interesting to people who are generally apathetic voters. Probably won't dramatically increase young turnout, but it would go up.

If the young people would rather play their xboxes than vote, it is probably better that way.
The fact that the choices we have are so bad is all the more reason to vote, and all the more reason to become involved in politics.
Just because the choice is for the lesser of two evils doesn't mean that you shouldn't decide.
I doubt that females and blacks are going to draw significantly more young voters into the polls. Maybe an extra half a percent.
I think that the Iraq War, Immigration, and the economy will bring more voters in.

the only people who're quite asserting stuff approximately Obamas race are his supporters, and the way incredible that's going to be to vote for a black candidate. i think of that's suited to vote for the guy who's maximum certified. Obama isn't certified in any respect. that's in common terms as dumb to assert i'm vote casting for Obama because of the fact his is black, because it would be to no longer vote for him because of the fact he's black. i might vote for Walter Williams or Clarence Thomas, two times or greater if i ought to for president. yet to vote in basic terms for Barack because of the fact he's black is stupid. And the fact in case you raise a question approximately Barack, that his supporters call you a racist is likewise stupid. he's working for president and prefer another applicants could desire to be asked quite tricky questions.

There may have been voter apathy among some segments of the population, but that election saw record numbers of registered voters come out to vote.
I would love to see record numbers of voters come out again for every election.

I think young people will vote because the country is in trouble and in need of a good president, not because there will be a black or female candidate.

I know. I'll only be 17 when we have the elections. I wish I were old enough so I could vote for Clinton or Obama. That would be soo awesome to finally have a president that's not white male.

No, as a young person I can tell you that I don't vote based on gender, race or even at this point party affiliation. I vote on issues and if these two don't intend to bring our troops home, then they will never have my vote.. I'm not voting a faulty promise maker into office.. I'll stick with Ron Paul

Only if you vote for homecoming Queen.
You have to vote, because you want changes, not because you have woman or black on the ballot.
