I've been watching project runway and i want to start making clothes (for me). I have no experience whatsoever about making clothes, patterns, etc. But I took a fashion design class and I make excellent sketches. I'm in high school and when I was in middle school, I wasn't very good in making pajamas or a tshirt. So should I buy a sewing machine and start to learn by myself? or is there any other options?

Sewing is a great hobby. Like anything worth doing it takes a great deal of time and effort to get good at it.

If you are on a budget you can watch CraigsList for a used machine, then take it to a local shop to be serviced before you try anything on it.

You can take classes at a fabric shop. Or ask around your neighborhood, church, etc to see if anyone who sews would like to teach you. Many sewists are delighted to help young people learn and they probably won't charge you a dime. You can get lots of one on one attention from someone who has years (or decades) of experience that way.

Start with a skirt or pajamas and build your skills from there.

I would suggest that you check out fabric and craft stores in your area for sewing classes. It is possible to learn to sew on your own, but the process will go a lot faster and smoother if you take a class. If you really like sewing then a good machine is a must. I would look for a used machine to start, you can probably find a good used machine for a fraction of what you will pay for a new one.

I agree with Milton, but I would add that even with a used machine, it has to have a tune up every year or it will keep messing up and ruin your projects. Even if you can't find a class, you can get a copy of "sewing for dummies" and some beginner patterns from your local fabric store. I love that show. They keep basic patterns around, like collars and waistbands, and build around those.
