Very difficult question. One has to weigh the possible benefit of helping remove a criminal from the street against the possible danger to oneself of testifying against a criminal.

Much would depend on the crime and the criminal's background. If the crime were selling pot, for example, I doubt I'd testify. If the crime were a violent one ... there it gets harder. There are many retribution/witness silencing/intimidation crimes against witnesses in my city.

I'd find it very hard to decide.

If I did decide to testify, I'd have the best darn security system for my house I could afford, a big dog trained to protect the house, and I'd be well-trained in the use of firearms myself. And I'd make dam sure the authorities gave me a Concealed Carry Permit.

I would stay and talk to the police. I have a concealed weapons permit so I would not be afraid of someone trying to hurt me for ratting them out. I might even save the taxpayers some money if they did come after me. Don't have to jail someone if they are dead.

I'd rather see tax dollars going for that then for lazy irresponsible people who would rather buy material goodies for the family in lieu of health insurance. If I witnessed a crime, I would give the police what information I could.

i would be afraid to say i saw it. I would be afraid that the guy who did it would come after me if he knew who I am. He would probably be out on bail by the next day.
