The surgery itself is a pretty short one, about 1 - 2 hours at the most. Your recovery time depends on how the procedure is done. There are two ways to remove a gallbladder: through an abdominal incision which is a longer recovery time and laparoscopically which is done through the belly button. With laparoscopic surgery you will have a shorter recovery time and a smaller scar.

It depends on at least 2 things. Are you having it laproscopic? Or open? Your age and general health. I had the lapo method and felt good by 7 days but got 2 weeks off work. Went on vacation the second week. It really only hurt bad for about 3 days. The gas that is blown into the belly was the worst but it goes out in 24 hrs or so. Everyone is different but that is how it was for me.
My surgery took about 20 min. I had a fantastic surgeon, she was in and out in a flash.
The open method is a whole different deal. I think you take at least 6 weeks as it is major surgery. Good luck

If they do it laproscopically, the surgery should only take 2-3 hours, if that long and recovery might be about a week.

well it depends on which kind of surgery you have, keyhole surgery can be done with minimal cutting, shorter stay in hospital and the recovery time is much quicker than the old method of a huge abdominal cut a week to ten days in hospital and weeks to get better... good luck with your surgery on friday

Iv'e in no way had my appendix bumped off yet I even have had my tonsils bumped off. Durring the operation you do no longer sense something for the reason which you're asleep. yet after the operation if in simple terms sounds such as you have an incredibly undesirable sore throat for some some days to a week. yet on the plus facet you get to consume assorted ice cream and popsicals and issues like that. Mmmmmm!

I didn't have it done, but my mother did years ago, and they walked her back to her room from recovery and only 1 day in the hospital. So it was that good years ago, it should be great now with all the new stuff.

my mom had her's out in june or something. Took her probably 2 weeks to be fully functional. She couldn't wear jeans for about a month. (they pushed on an incision) She's 52, and doesn't do a whole lot, so I think it took her longer to "recover"
