My real question is do you have to have experience as a theatre actor first before you move on to be a tv/film actor? I want to be a tv/film actor but I hear that it is like a tradition that you have to be in theatre first. Why? Both styles of acting seem to differ from one another. Now if you don't have to be in theatre then how do you start in tv and film without any theatre experience? Thanks all

There have been actors that did not have any acting experience. But the amateur stage, as I just told one of my students in LA, is the only place you really learn how to act.
That's why. There is no difference other than the "size" of the acting between film and stage. The actor does the same thing and achieves his goal in the same way. I can tell you how to start in soaps without any stage expereince, but once you get a role, how are you going to know what to do? Classes give you tips and are a must for the professional actor, but they do not teach you how to act. Only acting teaches you how to act. And you start while you are young going for comercials to get expierience.

You'll need an agent. Experience helps even if it's stage because it shows your ability to become a character. Break a leg!!

You don't have to be in theater first, you need to get a zed card, this is done in black and white, also a portfolio, in black and white--Get your face out there. You need a manager, they will work with you and let you know what you need. any modeling agency would have a list of photographers, although beware of modeling agencies as they have their own agenda, don't get caught up in it.
