I'm an aspiring actor but because of my parents and culture I'm not that tall. I'm too embarassed to list my height, lets just say I'm not even of average height. I've heard that looks is important to have some success as an actor because of marketing reasons. So since height is part of your looks how much of an impact can that be if your a short guy that wants to be an actor in Hollywood? Is there a chance for me? Also where do I begin in theatre or TV/Film acting? I would think TV/Film since may be they can make me appear to be tall. Where as theatre acting you can't hide your height. Well to all the experts and experience actors I thank you for your answers.

There are also Danny DeVito and many more short actors. All casting is done by look first and then ability. So you need to become a very very good actor. TV and film are no necessarily going to make you look tall. The question is always going to be do you have a marketable look and can you act? I am 5' 4 and 11 years old, and an actor. I have gotten many roles that are 12,13,14. You may be able to get parts that are younger than you really are. Directors sometimes cast on experience. Like if you are 13 and look 11, than you are usually more mature than a true 11 year old.

Historically most actors have been of less than average stature. Some roles may be more difficult to get but height or rather lack of it, espeically in today's world is no problem. It is actually harder for very tall men to get good parts than those who are of your height.

I think it depends on the character you're playing. Tall men couldn't be lollypop kids in The Wizard of Oz and short people couldn't play the Scarecrow. Understand?

If you really are super short, that auctually gives you more oppurtunities. Being short, you stand out, which is good. Also, some movies may need a short man to play a certain part. Good luck!

well, in theater, if it a part for ex. Music Man, harold hill cant be 3 feet shorter than Marion.
