Why does Boston Red Sox management allow M.Ramirez to look so dirty and sloppy. The hair is bad,uniform worse?

I see Ramirez as a talented good ballplayer, but he looks dirty and his uniform is sloppy. It is too big!!!!!! why does baseball allow this? It is not a good thing for kids to look at. A statement is one thing but do it with class. David Ortiz is not that way. If I was the owner I would do what Steinbrenner of the yankees does. A clean look and properly fitting uniform

The Red Sox are not about what the Yankees are about. The Yankees are all about structure and a marine like cleanliness and very uniform. The Red Sox are all about talent and character. I truly don't believe Manny would perform as well if he were not as comfortable as he is. He is the kind of player who just needs to do his own thing. He looks the way he should look. If it is not hurting his performance than why should Red Sox management care? He is perfect just the way he is.

That's an excellent question. The guy looks like he just woke up from a seven day drunk. You'd think he'd have more pride in himself but I guess it's just a reflect on Red Sox management. Of course there are the little groupies who thinks it's cool to look like a bum.

The one thing about Manny that must really piss off the opposition is the way he throws his hands up in the air at home plate when he thinks he's hit the long ball. If I was the pitcher being shown up like that, I'd make dam sure he paid the price his next at bat.

Personally, I think appearance isn't something really worth dwelling on when you put it up against performance.

As long as Manny produces, I'm sure the Red Sox don't care what he looks like! While some call it dirty and unkempt, others simply chalk it up to his individual character.

I figure Johnny Damon probably wasn't exactly happy about having to keep his hair trimmed back and face clean shaven, but a paycheck changes all that.

You wanna be like the Yankees? I HATE the way the Yankees look, especially since it is an imposed thing. I don't think Manny looks dirty and what's wrong with different? Manny is never mistaken for another player and vice versa. Why should everyone look the same? Should he change his name to 'John', too?

he benefits from his baggy uniform
have you ever seen him get hit by a pitch when his uniform is loose and the ball grazes the jersey? that's really good
Manny is also superstitious like many other players(ex. Craig Biggio) so he doesn't clean his helmet

The sox have alot of personalitys such as Manny, Ortiz, Schilling and Tavarez for instance. For Terry Francona it's a challenge for keeping all those personalities grounded and under control. Francona lets the players be casual and relaxed. And when they feel good they play good. As for Manny he plays best how he looks because he feels relaxed and doesn't have to be anything but himself

Why not let Manny be Manny. I happen to think he looks fine. Yes his uniform is a little big, but maybe he is more comfortable with that fit. I love his hair and think it looks great too. Why should players have to have short hair and tight fitting uniforms. The yankees organization take the personality out of players thus the fun and enjoyment of being themselves. Maybe they need to look at the other teams and quit being so uptight about things that aren't really important.

You should ask his wife the same question. Manny always looked like a clown when he played for us too. (Cleveland) He is such an attractive looking man, he does look really dirty, I hate the way Manny wears his hair too.
