No! Go now! I wouldn't wait without diabetes but I would run twice as fast because of the diabetes. I can't begin to tell you how dangerous waiting could be.

Hi,
You don't say what you did to your thumb.
The bones are quite strong in your thumb compared to the joints. The colour is caused by heavy bruising and the "hard as rock" describes inflamation around the damaged area.
If your thumb looks to be in a normal position, not bent or out of shape other than the swelling; go to your local pharmacy and get some anti inflamatory medication available over the counter and some pain killers. Bandage your thumb to your hand as you will find that you will catch it on everything. "nothing sticks out like a sore thumb"
If your thumb is misshaped it could be broken or dislocated.
If it is really causing pain or worry, go to the hospital emergency department. They will be able to take an x-ray and give you some treatment.

There are too many unknowns.
I would at least splint it with a tongue depresser (wide popsicle stick) and some tape.
Try some ice or cold water to reduce swelling.
There are urgi-care outpatient clinics that can Xray it.
My guess is that it is badly sprained but not broken.
Since you are diabetic, do you take Coumadin or Warfarin? It's possible for internal clotted blood to block an artery causing a stroke or muscle damage.

Sounds broken to me. Forget Wednesday - go to the Emergency Room/Urgent care NOW. By Wednesday, it will already have started to heal, and it will almost certainly be healing wrong. Hands are too important to screw around with. Get the thumb fixed NOW.

Keep your scheduled appointment & your doctor may order x-rays to see if it's broken or just "stoved." Being a diabetic can work against you when it comes to bone breaks, illness, etc. Wait & see what your doctor says.

my husband is also JD (type 1) & recently we thought he broke his toe. same condition as your thumb, but the only way to be certain is get an x-ray. if you have medical insurance, perhaps you can get into the ER for an x-ray & forward the results to your doctor.
being diabetic, it will take forever & a day to heal!!

If you can move it it probably is broken but go to the doctor now. You are risking making it worse if it is broken. Hope I helped and I hope its not broken.
