I recently inherited a collection of about 20, 3 inch diameter original "Presidential Medals". This was a series put out by the US Mint (years ago, I think the mint has a replica series of it now in smaller diameter) of high surface relief faces of the Presidents and something about them on their backs. They are heavy and would serve as nice paperweights on executive desks or for display perhaps by some decendent. Each has its own original box. Without going to Ebay, where I see some being auctioned, how and where is the best educational place I can sell/dispose of them. I think they were produced in limited quantity of under 3000 each according to some ebay descriptions. I've looked at ebay and the web, but real collectors would know better. These have "old world quality" and feel historic.
List of Presidents included: J. Adams, J.Q. Adams, Monroe, Hoover, Garfield, Wilson, Hayes, McKinley, C. A. Arthur, FDR Coolidge, Cleveland, US Grant. and others -- space limited.

You can not go by much on Ebay for there is more fiction there than fact. The mint still makes the 3" medals as well as the 1 1/2" size. I believe most if not all presidential medals are still available in both sizes. I do know some of the special medals that were made say in the 1800's and 1900's have not been made for years. I am sure all the presidents are available in both sizes for more info go to www.usmint.gov and go to the medals area and see what is available. I pick up a nice 3" bronze of Ronald Reagan for less than cost from the mint at an auction. You can check with the medal and token society, you can get their site on a google check. I presume that new dies had to be made over the years for the more famous presidents due to the mint selling a lot, I am not sure if one can tell one die from the other. I do have 2 -3' mint medals that honor engravers Christian Gobrecht and James B. Longacre that are true art items. The mint over the years has made some outstanding medals and by outstanding artists. Hope this helps some.
