Maintenance Is What Them Jiffy Lube Boys Do To Your Car When You Are Not So Mechanically Inclined Or Just Flat Out Too Lazy To Do It Yourself. But The Basic Of Maintenance Is To Keep Something Clean, Running Right , No Flaws In The Performance Of Duty, To Be At Its Best When It Is Well Taken Care Of.......That Kind Of Stuff. Just Depends On What Kind Of Maintenance You Are Talking About Or What You Need To Do Maintenance On

Maintenance is anything that "maintains" something.
For example, having your car serviced, would be deemed car maintenance.
A divorced wife being paid maintenance for her kids, another example of the word.

Most men have been there. Many won’t admit they’ve been there: involved with a high-maintenance date or girlfriend. You can run from a high-maintenance woman and you can hide, but your best chance of going unharmed is to avoid her all together

all mechanical moving parts do not go on forever they need to be maintained to keep them in top form or they will eventually break down, IE changing oil and filters , spark plugs , bearings need greasing , tyres wear out and need changing ,water has to be topped up , regularly , the yearly MOT takes care of the safety factor
