I am not ashamed to admit I receive food stamps.I have a spinal cord disease and lost my job and everything else due to a horrific disease process. Before then I was working full time with benefits. Yet, I am still classified as things like 'lowlife', 'druggie' 'bum', and those are the less-degrating terms that have been slung my way.

I personally know a woman who is on foodstamps. Her husband owns his own business, so half of their income isnt recorded, so they qualify for foodstamps, special insurance, discounts, etc etc, and you know what? that enrages me. They dont need it, at all, but theyre taking advantage of the system because they can. That pisses me off. I also know people who are capable of working and supporting themselves, but would rather let everyone else do it instead. That makes me mad too. Then I know people who are in a position where no matter how many hours they work at their job, theyre never going to be able to make ends meet, or people who are in your position, and cant work due to some kind of illness/injury , and I have no problem with those people being on food stamps. If someone genuinly needs the help then they should get it. I think its kind of sad that so many bad stereotypes are attached to food stamps, because I know people who really need them, but wont get them, just because they're afraid of what people will think.

No I don't dislike food stamp recipients personally. Unfortunately there is a stereo-type attached to food stamps. There are a lot of people out there that abuse the system and they are the ones that get the recognition not the people that legitimately need the help. I don't see the stereo-type changing either until the system is regulated.

I don't agree with the people who abuse the system. Food stamps are meant to help the people who really need help. The people I despise are the ones who sell the food stamps to other people for half the price in cash to buy beer or drugs, etc....
That is much harder to do now that it is on a card, but all one would have to do is go to the store with a "friend".....

Those are the people I don't like. Not the legitimate ones that need the help and use it for the right purposes.

I have no problem with people who cannot work receiving all the assistance they need. i wished i could control my own tax money; it would be an honor to direct it straight to you or someone like you. As things are, i dont have control of it and some of it goes to people who can work but dont like the choice of work that is available to them so they choose not to work. I dont like what I do for a living either but i do it anyway. now we have people running for president who promise to give everyone a thousand dollars for a 401k. where will they get this money from is the question? from a money tree?

Many people who receive food stamps work. What I hate are employers who do not pay hard working people decent wages. Some people work from dawn till dusk for minimum wage because it is the best they can do. Poverty is a horrible state for any human being to have to live in. Who would begrudge food to anyone?

The dislike for food stamp recipients has come up as some persons who do not in fact merit for this facility have availed them in crooked way. The percentage of such undeserving people is, however, very small. But they have distorted the image of all food stamp recipients, which is sad.The general population has charitable intentions and have soft corner in their hearts for the real needy persons.

No, I do not dislike food stamp recipients. I do however resent the ones who are able bodied and can work and elect not to better themselves with an education as their lazy pathetic way of life causes other taxpayers, and me to have to pay so much in taxes I cannot afford health care insurance. Public assistant government is for inidividuals such as yourself. I am sorry that you are viewed as one of the ones who do not need a helping hand.

Your unfortunate situation could and can happen to any of us. I am thankful that there is help for you to help you survive. I wish you the best. My best for your future, Sparkles

no but i do dislike all the people who recieve them and do not need them. There are alot of people like that. but i am glad it is there for the people who do truly need it. unfortunatly some times people who need it can't get it, because it is abused so badly. my fther raised 7 kids with no help from the gov. he worked hard and so did my mom. when my dad had a severe heart attack and a stroke and was disabled he coulnt get the help he needed. i think that is what sucks.

No, my family has sometimes gotten food stamps (well now, in Washington at least, they're food cards) and a lot of my friends families had too. Most people who receive food stamps aren't using the system.

The limitations of the handicapped is that of what others put against us. Don't let then get to you like that. You are giving evil points to claim.
Today's food stamp card is no different that a charge or debit card. No one in fount or behind you should even notice the type of card you have. Don't let it bother you.
